چکیده

An efficient manual micro assembly is a critical step in micro production. For a human operator, the manual assembly of miniature products presents a particular challenge. Amongst the challenges present in manual micro assembly are inadequately large human forces which increase the risk of damaging sensible products as well as the operator‟s limited capability of executing fine precision movements. Addressing these problems, this paper presents the results of an experiment with a telepresent manufacturing system designed for the execution of manual micro assembly tasks. A precise kinematic system is controlled manually by force feedback joysticks which are able to reflect forces of contact to the human operator. An experiment was conducted which involved a standard pick-and-place task with and without force feedback. The experiment‟s results emphasize the importance of visual information for the human operator, which is more relied upon during the execution of the task than is haptic assistance.

Confocal fluorescence microscopy: An ultra-sensitive tool used to evaluate intracellular antiretroviral nano-drug delivery in HeLa cells.

In the last decade, confocal fluorescence microscopy has emerged as an ultra-sensitive tool for real-time study of nanoparticles (NPs) fate at the cellular-level. According to WHO 2007 report, Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is still one of the world's major health threats by claiming approximately 7,000 new infections daily worldwide. Although combina...

Premature delivery in HIV-infected women starting protease inhibitor therapy during pregnancy: role of the ritonavir boost?

BACKGROUND The association between combination antiretroviral (cARV) therapy use by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected women during pregnancy and risk of prematurity is still controversial. We explored this question, focusing on the initiation of ritonavir-boosted protease inhibitors (PIs) during pregnancy, which is now standard care. METHODS Trends in prematurity (<37 gestational we...

Orofacial analgesic-like activity of carvacrol in rodents.

Carvacrol (CARV) is a phenolic monoterpene present in the essential oil of several aromatic spices. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the antinociceptive effect of CARV on formalin-, capsaicin-, and glutamate-induced orofacial nociception in mice. Male mice were pretreated with CARV [25, 50, and 100 mg/kg body weight (BW), intraperitoneal (i.p.)], morphine (5 mg/kg BW, i.p.), or ...

Community-acquired respiratory viruses after lung transplantation: common, sometimes silent, potentially lethal.

Community-acquired respiratory viruses (CARV) represent an ever present risk to the lung transplant (LTX) recipient. Alone among solid organ transplants, the lung allograft is exposed to the ambient environment with every breath; hence, it is exposed to CARV, which may trigger rejection. Or at least we once thought despite some recent evidence to the contrary. The current article in the journal...

Carvedilol recovers normal blood pressure variability in rats with myocardial infarction

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of chronic treatment with carvedilol in blood pressure (BPV) and heart rate (HRV) variability of rats with myocardial infarction (MI). METHODS MI was produced in male rats by ligature of anterior interventricular branch of left coronary artery. Control rats were submitted to a sham surgery (SO). MI and SO rats were randomized to ...

Evaluation of risk for late language emergence after in utero antiretroviral drug exposure in HIV-exposed uninfected infants.

BACKGROUND Combination antiretroviral (cARV) regimens are recommended for pregnant women with HIV to prevent perinatal HIV transmission. Safety is a concern for infants who were HIV-exposed but uninfected, particularly for neurodevelopmental problems, such as language delays. METHODS We studied late language emergence (LLE) in HIV-exposed but uninfected children enrolled in a US-based prospec...
